Vermeer is a novel interactive 360° viewable display suitable for a tabletop form factor from Microsoft Research Cambridge. It provides viewpoint corrected stereoscopic 3D graphics to simultaneous users 360° around the display, without the need for eyewear or other user instrumentation. In contrast to other systems, Vermeer allows users for the first time, to reach into and directly touch 3D objects inside a display volume. It also enables simultaneous users 360° viewing of the 3D object. Inherently other 360° systems restrict interactions to outside the display volume behind a protective glass or plastic dome.

അല്ഖമയെ തിരുനബിക്കിഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു. ഭക്തനും വിശുദ്ധനുമായ സ്വഹാബി. സുന്നത്തുകളോട് അങ്ങേയറ്റത്തെ പ്രതിബദ്ധതയുള്ള സത്യവിശ്വാസി. അല്ഖമ മാരകരോഗം പിടിപെട്ടു കിടപ്പിലായി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഭാര്യ നബിയുടെ അരികിലെത്തി വിവരം പറഞ്ഞു. ഉമറിനെയും അലിയെയും ബിലാലിനെയും റസൂല് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു. അവര് അല്ഖമയെ പരിചരിച്ചു. മരണം കാത്തുകിടക്കുന്നതിനാല് കലിമ ചൊല്ലിക്കൊടുത്തു. പക്ഷേ, അല്ഖമയ്ക്ക് അതേറ്റു ചൊല്ലാന് കഴിയുന്നില്ല. ബിലാല് വേഗം റസൂലിന്റെ അരികിലെത്തി വിവരം പറഞ്ഞു: “റസൂലേ, അല്ഖമയ്ക്ക് കലിമ ചൊല്ലാന് കഴിയുന്നില്ല!” തിരുനബി കുറേ ആലോചിച്ച ശേഷം ചോദിച്ചു: “അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മാതാപിതാക്കള് ജീവിച്ചിരിപ്പുണ്ടോ?” ബിലാലിന്റെ മറുപടി: “അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പിതാവ് നേരത്തെ മരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. വൃദ്ധയായ ഉമ്മ അവിടെയുണ്ട്.” “ശരി. ആ മാതാവിന്റെ അടുത്ത് ചെന്ന് എന്റെ സലാം പറയുക. കഴിയുമെങ്കില് എന്റെ അടുത്ത് വരാനും പറയുക. അല്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് അവരുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് ചെല്ലാം.”
റസൂലിന്റെ നിര്ദേശം കേട്ടപ്പോള്, ഉടന് ആ ഉമ്മ തിരുനബിയുടെ അരികിലെത്തി. റസൂല് അവരെ ആദരവോടെ സ്വീകരിച്ചിരുത്തി. അല്ഖമയുടെ പെരുമാറ്റത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അന്വേഷിച്ചു. ആ വൃദ്ധമാതാവ് പറഞ്ഞു:
“എന്റെ മകന് അല്ലാഹുവിന്റെ കല്പനകള് അനുസരിച്ച് ജീവിക്കുന്നവനാണ്, റസൂലേ! എന്നാല് എന്നോടുള്ള പെരുമാറ്റം നല്ല രീതിയിലല്ല. അതിനാല് എനിക്കവനോട് ചെറിയ വെറുപ്പുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പലപ്പോഴും അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ മുമ്പില് വെച്ച് എന്നോട് കയര്ത്തിരുന്നു.” തിരുനബി പറഞ്ഞു: “അതെ, അതുതന്നെയാണ് അല്ഖമയ്ക്ക് കലിമ ചൊല്ലാന് കഴിയാത്തത്.” തുടര്ന്ന്, അല്ഖമയെ തീയില് ചുട്ടെരിക്കാന് ബിലാലിനോട് റസൂല് കല്പിച്ചു. “അല്ലാഹുവിന്റെ ദൂതരേ, അതുവേണ്ട. എനിക്കത് സഹിക്കാനാവില്ല റസൂലേ” -ആ ഉമ്മ കരഞ്ഞു പറഞ്ഞു. “അല്ലാഹുവിന്റെ ശിക്ഷ ഇതിലേറെ കഠിനമാണ്. നിങ്ങളവന് മാപ്പുനല്കിയാല് അവന് രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. ഇല്ലെങ്കില് അവന്റെ നമസ്കാരവും നോമ്പും സല്ക്കര്മങ്ങളുമെല്ലാം നഷ്ടത്തിലാകും”
അവര് മകന് മാപ്പുനല്കി; ഉമ്മയല്ലേ! തിരുനബി(സ) ബിലാലിനെ വീണ്ടും അല്ഖമയുടെ അടുത്തേക്കയച്ചു. ബിലാല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് വ്യക്തമായി കലിമ ചൊല്ലുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ആ വിശുദ്ധ വചനങ്ങള് ചൊല്ലിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ, അല്ഖമ ഇഹലോകത്തോട് യാത്ര പറഞ്ഞു. തിരുനബി(സ) തന്നെയായിരുന്നു മയ്യിത്ത് നമസ്കാരത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നല്കിയത്.
ഉമ്മയോളം വരില്ല മറ്റൊന്നും എന്നതാണ് ഈ ചരിത്രത്തില് നിന്നുള്ള പാഠം. പരിഗണനയില് പ്രധാനം ഉമ്മയ്ക്കാണ്. പ്രായമേറും തോറും പരിഗണന വര്ധിക്കണം. ഉമ്മയും ഉപ്പയും നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിന് അലങ്കാരമാണ്. അവരുടെ സഹവാസം മഹാഭാഗ്യമാണ്. അവരുടെ പ്രാര്ഥനകള് നമുക്ക് കാവലാണ്. ആ കൈത്തലങ്ങള് ആശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ മേഘവര്ഷമാണ്. അവര് കൂട്ടിനുണ്ടെങ്കില് അതിലേറെ വലിയ സമ്പത്തില്ല. അവരുടെ സന്തോഷത്തേക്കാള് മികച്ച ലക്ഷ്യമില്ല. അവര്ക്കായുള്ള പ്രാര്ഥനയേക്കാള് ഉന്നതമായ പ്രത്യുപകാരവുമില്ല!
പ്രായമായ തേനീച്ചയെ മറ്റു തേനീച്ചകള് കുത്തിപ്പുറത്താക്കാറുണ്ട്. മനുഷ്യരിലും ചിലര് ഇങ്ങനെയായിട്ടുണ്ട്. പ്രായമേറും തോറും നമ്മുടെ നെഞ്ചിലേക്കടുപ്പിക്കേണ്ടവരാണ് ഉമ്മയും ഉപ്പയും. അവരില് നിന്ന് തിരിച്ചൊന്നും കിട്ടാത്ത സന്ദര്ഭമാണ് വാര്ധക്യം. അപ്പോഴാണ് മക്കളില് നിന്ന് അവര്ക്ക് കൂടുതല് തിരിച്ചുകിട്ടേണ്ടത്. വൃദ്ധരായ ഉമ്മയോ ഉപ്പയോ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നിട്ടും സ്വര്ഗം ലഭിക്കാന് ഭാഗ്യമില്ലാത്തവര് ഏറ്റവും വലിയ നാശമുള്ളവരാണെന്ന് നബി(സ) പറയുന്നുണ്ട്. കേവലമൊരു മാംസക്കഷ്ണം മാത്രമായിരുന്ന നമ്മെ സംരക്ഷിച്ച് പരിപാലിച്ച് വളര്ത്തിയെടുത്തവരാണവര്. അന്ന്, അതവര്ക്കൊരു വലിയ പരീക്ഷണമായിരുന്നു. ഇന്നവര് വാര്ധക്യത്തിലാണ്; ഈ പരീക്ഷണം അവര്ക്കുള്ളതല്ല, നമുക്കുള്ളതാണ്. അവരുടെ ശരീരത്തില് നിന്ന് ചോരയും നീരുമെല്ലാം വറ്റിപ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു. ചുക്കിച്ചുളിഞ്ഞ ശരീരമാണിന്ന്. എവിടെയാണ് ആ ചോരയും നീരുമെല്ലാം?
ഇതാ മക്കളുടെ തുടുത്തു സുന്ദരമായ ശരീരത്തില് അതുണ്ട്. അവര് കരഞ്ഞത്, കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടത്, ഉറക്കമിളച്ചത്, കാത്തിരുന്നത് എല്ലാം നമ്മെയായിരുന്നു; നമ്മെ മാത്രം! പക്ഷേ, ഇന്ന് അധിക വീടുകളിലും അനാഥരായി കിടക്കുന്നത് മാതാപിതാക്കളാണ്. ഒന്ന് തളരുമ്പോള്, ക്ഷീണിക്കുമ്പോള് കൈപിടിക്കേണ്ടവര് അവരുടെ അരികിലില്ല! അതെ, കൈത്താങ്ങാകേണ്ടവരെല്ലാം കൈവിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു! വാര്ധക്യത്തില് ഉമ്മയെ പരിചരിച്ചതിന്റെ കാരണത്താല് സ്വര്ഗസ്ഥനായ ഒരാളെക്കുറിച്ച് ഉമറിനോട് തിരുനബി പറയുന്നുണ്ട്. അയാളെ കണ്ടാല് പ്രാര്ഥനയ്ക്ക് വസിയ്യത്ത് ചെയ്യണമെന്നും നിര്ദേശിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രാര്ഥനകള് അല്ലാഹു കേള്ക്കും! `കാരുണ്യത്താലുള്ള എളിമയുടെ ചിറക്’ അവര്ക്ക് താഴ്ത്തി നല്കണമെന്നാണ് (17:23) അല്ലാഹുവിന്റെ നിര്ദേശം. ഉമ്മയെ അവഗണിച്ചതു കാരണം അപകടത്തിലായ, മഹാനായ സത്യവിശ്വാസി ജുറൈജിന്റെ കഥ തിരുനബി(സ)യും പറഞ്ഞുതന്നു. നമുക്ക് ജന്മം നല്കിയവര്, പേരിട്ടവര്, കല്ലും മുള്ളും തട്ടാതെ കാത്തു വളര്ത്തിയവര്, പിശുക്കില്ലാതെ സ്നേഹിച്ചവര്, നമുക്കായി ഏറ്റവും ദു:ഖിച്ചവര്, സന്തോഷിച്ചവര്….. എല്ലാം അവര്ക്ക് തിരിച്ചു നല്കുക. കടമ്മനിട്ടയുടെ ഒരു വരിയുണ്ട്:
